As the wheels spun, the car sunk deeper.
I was driving on the beach. My car is rear-wheel drive and heavy to the rear. I needed to pee. Out I got, emptied the bladder, and as I got back into the car and put the foot down, I stayed put. Foot down further, no movement. Reverse, no movement.
I thought I could solve this myself. I placed rocks under the tyres. I dug out tracks with my hands. No movement.
An hour or two passed, the sun began to set, and I knew my own hands were no longer going to be enough.
At that point, I began to make some phone calls and managed to organise a local farmer with a tractor to come and help me pull it out. I had to wait, and I had to pay, but it was successful.
Could I have continued trying myself? Yes, but as the wheels continue spinning, the chassis will rest on the send, reducing the traction even further, to the point where the tyres will be totally useless.
This is exactly what happens in health and fitness all the time.
You think you can do it all yourself. You don't think you need to ask questions. You plan all your own training. You set yourself targets you can't reach.
Years pass, and eventually, the sun begins to set on your enthusiasm for health and fitness.
Don't fear reaching out to someone for help when you are stuck in that hole and the wheels are spinning.
You can buy programmes online.
You can access apps to accurately track your nutrition.
You can use calculators for your nutrition targets.
You can access free meal plans.
You can copy what others are doing.
And, of course, you can go all in and get coaching.
There are other coaches we recommend, so this isn't about convincing you to work with us. Apps like MyFitnessPal, MacroFactor, Carbon Diet Coach, JuggernautAI, RP Diet App, RP Training Templates, Barbell Medicine; all of these apps / companies have excellent resources for you to get on the path.
In some cases, you might need in-person help, and we often tell potential clients that they would be better off seeing a coach or physio in person when we feel we are not best for the job.
Regardless of where you go or what service you seek, don't allow your ego to stop you from moving forward. Stop allowing the wheels to spin.
