"Hyrox is very popular these days and with that comes all sort of opinions online and the latest podcaster protocols about how much baking soda to inject into your overpriced electrolyte drink before you take a pre-SIM cold plunge to optimise performance and recovery.
Ray has been working with us for over 6 months now and is someone who is seeing great returns on taking his Hyrox training, nutrition and recovery seriously.
It’s not always
easy though. He’s an entrepreneur with a business to run as well as a familiar face on the Dublin DJ scene. Add to that to daddy duties and his training sessions and there really isn’t room for wasting time or energy on ineffective nutrition or recovery protocols.
For Ray, and many of our clients, clarity and prioritisation is
the name of the game. There are lots of balls to juggle so we have to ensure the plan is clear and as easy to execute as possible while cutting through all the noise.
We have had to get creative to allow Ray to fuel himself properly in a training week, and this often means a bag of dried mango and a protein yogurt pouch join Ray in
the DJ booth.
Carb-loading for Hyrox needs to be well-mapped out especially when you consider that there is often travel involved so it’s a case of knowing how many grams of carbohydrates you’re going to hit the day before and how you can make that happen while travelling to the Hyrox race location with potentially limited
food preparation facilities.
There is also supplementation to consider. What’s worth potentially bringing on a flight that is going to serve you well on race day?
Carbohydrate intake and energy availability were the main limiting factors when Ray came to work with us. He was already performing well in Hyrox but he knew he didn’t want to leave any stone unturned or see his training plateau.
Timing of nutrients then is also an important consideration especially where
multiple training sessions are completed within a 24-hour period. Similarly, we have to know when to add carbs to a training session or event to keep performance high.
No just going through the motions, no wondering if what you’re doing has you on the right track.
Ray had the clarity and the support to implement the plan and it has taken him through a fantastic 2024 competitive season.
Multiple personal best times and a first place finish in Hyrox Dublin (in the Pro
Division too!) which has qualified him for the World Championships this Summer and we look forward to supporting him every step of the way.
So, if you are someone who also wants to get the most out of yourself when it comes to your health and fitness then maybe you’d like our help to make 2025 a year of personal bests
for you.
