The fact that calories are important does not mean that you need to track them. The same can be said for protein, carbohydrates, fat, fibre etc.. Nutrition can be a hell of a lot simpler than that.
At the same time, this doesn't mean tracking is something to be avoided. It can be helpful for some, and a hindrance for others.
