In the above example, you
have chosen to spend 1 extra hour exercising, 2 hours on a side hustle / project, and 2 hours reading / studying. What would your life look like if you did that for 10 years?
Take the example of regular
reading. 10 years of reading 2 hours a day. Let's say a book takes you 7 hours to finish. 10 years x 365 days x 2 hours = 1000+ books read over 10 years. If those books were all surrounding related subjects, you'd accumulate a comprehensive education that was just drip-fed over the years in your spare time.
Of course, you think "oh well I would never be able to read for 2 hours every day". And that is my point. If you had a gun to your head, or were paid to do it, could you? Yes, you could. It doesn't mean that needs to be your standard, but I want you to ask yourself honestly what your life could look like if you gave maximum effort each day.
How about your training? Or learning a language? Starting a new project? Learning a skill?
Can you honestly turn around to me and tell me that (1) your life wouldn't be vastly better if you gave time to these things on a consistent basis, and (2) that you genuinely have zero extra time?
Most of us, if we are honest with ourselves, know that we are operating at but a fraction of our full potential. We get glimpses of this every now and then. When we have a training partner in the gym, we suddenly realise that we don't normally give 100%, as the personal bests are rolling in out of nowhere.
This goes for you, me, and pretty much everyone I know.
None of us are operating at 100%. But, can we improve by 10% and have that accumulate over 10 years? Yes. We certainly can.
Let's get after it this week, team.
